An inductive leap-Uglies

During the novel uglies the main character Tally made a large inductive leap. She assumed that all pretties are perfect and never doubted that there was no reason to trust them. Tally made this leap because she is very trusting and to a point still very innocent. Tally never questioned anything she had been taught. In the end though it turned out that when you received the operation to become pretty your mind was also manipulated. When Tally learned about this she realized that she was almost to late.

Explaining Wordle

1. What is the purpose of your poem? What mood, message or point are you trying to make?

2. What did you do to create this purpose? Discuss your word choice and your decision on the size of particular words in comparison to other words.

3. Did you like using Wordle? Come up with other possible uses of Wordle inside and outside of English class.

The purpose of the poem is to explain some of the main aspects in the book Uglies. But to put more emphasis on certain word which represents more important points as well. The main events in this story so far are that the main character Tally, an ugly is looking forward to an operation. This is a operation that everyone receives when they are 16 years old to become apart of the pretties. Except when her new friend shay runs away she has to find her, or else she can not have the operation. Since those are the main points in the story I made the words Operation, Runaway, Uglies etc all larger. I made the word operation the largest because in my opinion the storyline revolves around the operation and becoming a pretty.  I liked using wordle for the most part because i think that it is a very different and visually appealing way of presenting information and it also allows you to put a larger emphasis and certain points about the story.
In conclusion the point purpose of this poem is to use words that help describe the poem and putting more emphasis on words that represent more important events in the story

Film adaptation-Hunger Games

Everything The Hunger Games Movie Left OutRecently, the popular book Hunger Games made into a flim. In my opinion, they did a good job even though they did leave some parts out, as well as changing certain parts. Some of the parts that they left out were the Avox. They never really ever showed much of Haymich drunk either, like when he falls of the stage at the reaping. The two main things that i noticed that they had changed in the film was that Madge never gave Katniss the mockingjay pin but instead it was Prim. I also noticed that the muttation dogs wern't actual tributes but just large dogs. Even though they did leave parts out as well as changing some, i understand that they only have a certain amount of time as well as having to think about not making it to voilent.

Significant Characteristics-Mockingjay

In the Mockingjay book there are many main elements in the story. Most of them are the setting, the capitol, district twelve and district thirteen. But also by events like the rebellion on the capitol and Peeta being hijacked. Even though there are many elements, I think that the two that the most important element is that Katniss has to be the "Mockinjay" . This means she has to be the face of the rebellion against the capitol. I think that this is the most important element because since Katniss narrates the story everything in the storyline revolves around it. For example, she has to deal with her mental and physical damage from the games. As well as having to deal with Peeta being in the Capitol and what he is saying about her. Being the mockingjay is also very hard for katniss because she doesn't understand why she has to do it. As well as not knowing the impact she could have on helping and inspiring the districts. The story goes on and they finally get Peeta back to district thirteen only to find out that he has been hijacked by the capitol. This makes it even harder for Katniss to be the mockingjay because she feels frustrated. She also feels like she does not really have anything else to live for anymore. Those are just some examples of why being the mockingjay is the main element in the story.

Character Traits- Catching Fire

The protagonist so far in catching fire is Katniss. Katniss is very considerate and caring, she shows this be always try to help everyone she can, even though she has so much wealth from winning the games. For example, when she brings Gale's family food. She also shows ambition by trying to convince everyone that they should run away into the woods to escape district 12 and the rebellion that is about to happen. So in conclusion, the protagonist in the story is Katniss who is considerate, caring and ambitious.

Suspense or Pathos- Mockingjay

I think that the moment I felt the most pathos was when Katniss found her prep team, Venia Octavia and Flavius. The part that I felt a lot of sympathy for Katniss and the prep team was when the Katniss said On seeing me, Flavius And Octavia shrink back against the walls like they're anticipating an attack, even though I have never hurt them. I thought that this was really sad because they were being hurt by people in district 13, which is supposed to be a safe place. I also felt pathos for Katniss, because Katniss is a sympathetic person, so you could tell she was hurt by this as well. So, when Katniss found Venia Octavia and Flavius I felt pathos for both of them.

Point of view-Catching Fire

The Point of view in Catching fire is narrated in second person. The person that narrates the story is the main character, Katniss. I think that the author chose to tell the story from this point of view because it helps the readers understand more of the storyline. You also get a better understanding of what it is like to go through the experience of the hunger games because you get to read about her emotions and her opinions on everyone else in the story. This can be humorous sometimes because Katniss has a more judgmental personality. I would not change the point of view of the story, because I don't think it would have been the same. Maybe though if you were a boy who was reading the story it would be maybe be more interesting for the series to be told from Peeta's perspective because they could possibly relate to him more than Katniss.

Tone and Mood-Catching Fire

Hunger Games-Catching Fire

I would say that the mood at the beginning of this book is tense. For example, in the very first paragraph, the narrator says "my muscles are clenched tight against the cold". So immediately indicates that the narrator is already very tense. As you go on reading you find out that the narrator Katniss Everdden is the focus of the story, but it also revolves around Peeta Melark, Haymich, Gale, her mom, sister and  the capitol, a city filed with people that control everything, including the main character. Even though everyone that lived under the control of the capitol is tense, Katniss is the most high strung and tense of all of them. She is like that because she has more to hid from the capitol than everyone else, she hunts illegally, shes not in love with who she is supposed to be in love with, peeta and she hates everything about them.

Stock Characters - Catching fire

I think that I can relate Katniss to Hermionie from Harry Potter. In Catching Fire it shows that katniss is very brave, when she is fighting in the hunger games. She does what she thinks is right even if it has consecuences, she also would sacrifice anything for her family, like when she volunteers to be a tribute when he sister was chosen. Hermionie also does this when she sets a spell on her parents to forget he so that she can fight against voldemort. They also both fight against what they think is right no matter if it has consequences. Katniss always hunts for her familly so that they do not starve, even though it is illegal. Hermionie, even though school is very important to her, breaks the rules and drops out for a year to fight for what she thinks is right. So, in conclusion they are similar because they are both very brave,  they risk their lives, sacrifice anything for their famillys and fight for what they think is right no mattter what.
